Alaska Winter 2013
My friend, Curt, and I went up to Anchorage (Thanks Susan and Mike for hosting Squaters from California!!!), and Talkeetna to see the start of the Iditerod sled race and to try for the elusive Aurora Borealis. We enjoyed the last couple days of Fur Rondy in Anchorage, including The Trapper's and Minor's Ball with associated beard and mustache contest and the reindeer run (but much safer than the running of the Bulls in Pamplona), and the Fur auction. Then it was on to Talkeetna and the Susitna River lodge!!! Darlene and Howard are great hosts and we had some decent looks at denali (Mt. McKinley) from the Susitna River. Snow machining looking for photo ops with Howard was fun as well... We photographed the ceremonial start of the Iditerod in Anchorage and then the office start the next day at Willow Lake... But alas, no Auroras!!! So, we'll have to try again NEXT year, but I think out of Fairbanks... I think my best image was that of the older gentleman in fur!!! Great texture, and a face that implies many life's experiences.
